Saturday December 14 - seven adult dogs and four two week old puppies were rescued from Greensburg. The attached photos show just how darling these dogs are. All of them have been neglected and most of them are underweight and were infested with fleas and worms. Only one of the dogs tested positive for heartworm and its new owner is treating the heartworm.
Thank you to all of you who have been so supportive of the rescue effort. Donations of dog food and money are giving us a bartering tool to get animals out of the horrible conditions they endure.
Friday, December 20 I plan to make another trip to collect 10 to 12 more dogs.
One of the dogs is 15 years old and blind, two have cataracts, one is missing one eye, and one, I am told, is extremely ill. Other dogs we will bring out are Shipoos and and Lhasa Apso mix. I will do my best to negotiate for surrender of other shipoos that the owner is not willing to surrender as of today.
Nine or ten of the rescued dogs from last Saturday lived in the pig sty/barn on the ground. There are about four dogs that live on the back porch of the unoccupied house, and four or five dogs that live inside this house.
After the dogs are out of the one location, the effort will shift to the second site where the 30 horses and perhaps as many as 50 or so dogs live. Two elderly horses will come out first.
Negotiation is extremely difficult as the owner expects the young horses to sell for $300 and the adult horses to bring $1000 each at the spring auction.
To my knowledge the horses and dogs have no food. The owner still believes the horses will do fine eating pasture grass. I have no idea how the owner expects the dogs to survive without food.
Again, thanks so very much for your kind support. If you are interested in helping, the Animal Protection Coalition is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation fed tax id 35-2135030. We still need money, dog food, horse wormer, 12,14 & 16 inch dog collars and winter coats for small dogs. (Almost every dog rescued so far has had to be shaved since their coats were so badly matted and infested with dead fleas).
I will keep you updated as events occur.
Sincerely,
