A Prayer for Animals
by Albert Schweitzer
Hear, our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals. Especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

Morgan County Humane Society puts forth every possible effort to place the animals that come into  their shelter.  However, MCHS, like other Humane Societies, is a kill animal shelter.  While many dogs and cats are placed in new homes, there are still many others, because of shelter overcrowding or other circumstances, whose lives will be cut short.
If you are looking for a dog or cat - please help save a life and consider adopting a shelter animal.

Ben was an gentle 8 year old Great Dane mix whose health went downhill during his stay at the shelter and had to be put down in August 2003. Sadly, when shelters become full, the older dogs are the first to be euthanized. If you have room in your heart for an older dog, please call the shelter at (765) 349-9177 or email Liz at: MCHSLIZ@aol.com Transportation from Martinsville to the Indianapolis area can be arranged.

Max was a chubby little Lhasa/Cocker mix who went up for adoption in late January 2003. Shortly after, it was discovered that this sweet 5 year old had an inoperable tumor in his throat. He went to the bridge on January 27th, 2003.

Shelia was a wonderful yellow lab mix who went to the Rainbow Bridge sometime in early March 2003 due to shelter overcrowding.

The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
